Now that we are all rooming together the girls are able to be next to eachother, just like old times!! We are still working on nursing, Lucy and Marigny will let us know when they are ready. The nurses and doctors keep telling us "a light bulb will go on and they will get it". Well someone needs to pay the electric bill because I want to go home! It can happen overnight......we will just keep trying. They are getting so big and have outgrown some of their preemie clothes. Happy 4 week birthday Lucy and Marigny! Love Mom and Dad

A quick note to anybody trying to track us down. We have moved into the "West Wing" of the NICU with the Kids. It's great sleeping in the same room as them! It's like we are a family or something. Mom is only allowed to leave for an hour at a time, so for all intents and purposes, she it not allowed to leave at all. The nurses have helped us out by finding ways for us (Mom especially) to catch up a little on sleep for the past two nights. That should help a lot for the coming nights!

Cell phones are not allowed in the NICU, so it will be hard to contact us for a little while. I head to work during the day, so my phone will be on from about 8 - 5. You can leave a message at night, of course.

If all goes well, all four of us will be coming home by the end of the month! Of course, it all depends on how the girls are feeding, so it could potentially be longer.

This morning, Lucy took 18 ml. That is the second most she has taken (took 20 yesterday morning), but the big story was Marigny taking 30 mls! We were getting worried because she had put up zeros for almost 24 hours. Probably helped that she took a 60 gram poop during the night.

As we get the chance, we will post more. We cannot get on the network in the hospital, so there will not be very many posts until we come home.

Since the little ladies are preemies, they have a difficult time staying awake to nurse. When they begin to drift off I help them do baby exercises to become more alert. Here is Lucy doing some leg lifts.

Lucy: 5 lbs., 2.5 ozs.
Marigny: 5 lbs., 9.4 ozs.

The twinsies are getting breast milk for all of their feedings, breast milk contains 20 calories per mL. To help them gain weight there are calories added to my breast milk to bring the caloric count up to 24 calories per mL. Right now Marigny takes 48 mL, every three hours and Lucy takes 45 mLs every three hours. During rounds today, the neonatologist noted that they are not having any problems gaining weight and that they could probably cut back on the calories that get added to the breast milk. One step closer to coming home!!

Can you imagine if I was still pregnant?! Over 10 lbs. of babies!

They are identical twins and have to do everything the same. Lucy stretched and put her right arm up then Marigny stretched and put her right arm up. Monkey see, Bear do!! (ha ha ha)

Lucy: 4 lbs., 15 ozs.
Marigny: 5 lbs., 5 ozs. (she has a big pooh to take today!)

We are also working on nursing. Since the girls are preemies, their sucking/swallowing skills are still developing. We had a successful feeding last night when Lucy took 10 mL and this morning when Marigny took 8 mL. Good job bambinos!

On September 2nd and 3rd, Lucy and Marigny met their Great Grandpa U., Great Grandma U., and their Great Uncle Dan. The girls were so much smaller two weeks ago!! We are amazed at how quickly they are growing. Speaking of growing here are their weights as of this morning:

HAT BLOGGING

We are starting new subcatagory of posts called "Hat Blogging". Lucy and Marigny have received a wide assortment of hats from family and friends. Good thing as we live in Minnesota and it is already getting chilly. We will begin the fashion show with the collection from Aunt Karen and Aunt Beth !!!!! Great Aunt Karen and Great Aunt Beth to the bambinos. Thank you both for the beautiful hats, booties (the little ones just fit, can you believe it!! teeny feet), blankets and bibs.

Lucy: 4 lbs., 9 ozs.
Marigny: 4 lbs., 15 ozs.

Tchoupi is watching me blog this morning.........this is what I see.....
His weight today: 18 lbs.

When N and I get to the hospital at 5:30 a.m. we start by waking Lucy up if she is not already awake. Then she takes a few minutes to stretch........

and stretch.....

then we take her temperature, change her diaper and weigh her.....

While Lucy nurses N takes Marigny's temperature, changes her diaper and weighs her. After Lucy nurses I pass her to N to kangaroo her and gavage feed while I nurse Marigny......

In the evenings, we do the same except N kangaroos Marigny. Everything has to be even-steven!! Finally, we get them dressed and swaddled.......The whole process starts over again at 5:30 p.m. I go up midday for some cuddle time which will turn into another nursing sometime soon.

This was taken on Sunday. The girls spent about 15 minutes grabbing and chewing on eachother's arms and hands. They are in separate cribs/isolettes so it is a treat to put them side by side. We keep asking ourselves if they are aware of eachother.......

These crack me up!! We keep teasing Dad that the girls are going to get hairballs from kangarooing with him. Lucy and Marigny don't seem to mind one bit, as soon as they hit his chest they crash, mouths open, catching flies and all.
