Before we head outside to enjoy what may possibly be our last warm day this year, I thought I would finish another post. Marigny is in the swing, the girls finally weigh enough so that we can turn the swing on the lowest setting without risking Adelman-Baby-Launch. I don't dare turn it up to the next speed though! Lucy is cuddling with me now after just eating. The sun is out and I am going to attempt to take the girls on a walk by myself. It is a lot more complicated than it seems. We'll let yall know how it goes.

Thing 1 (Lucy) and Thing 2 (Marigny) Once again, they are caught doing the same thing, crying this time. Both Jessica L. and Sarah N. purchased these for the girls, but in different sizes. Sarah and I dressed up as Thing 1 and 2 for Halloween on more than one occasion if i remember correctly, blue hair and all......good times in Mad-town.

Yesterday was my first day at home alone with Lucy and Marigny. Nick came home around 1:30 pm and it was great to have him back. We did allright, everyone got fed, diapered and cuddled. Nothing else was accomplished around the house and I don't care! The girls are having some reflux issues and laying in thier crib makes it worse so they are held a lot right now. No complaints from us, we love to suggle with them!

"Psst..........hey Marigny..."

"Speak up Lula Mae, I can't hear you!"
"PSST...... MARIGNY! Can you believe we have not had a bottle in the past two days? Breast is best!"

That's right ladies and germs, the light bulb has officially gone off......er....on or however you want to say it. The last bottle has been over two days ago and they are eating better than ever. Our due date was yesterday so it makes sense that they waited until yesterday to figure everything out, they are officially newborns now! We are so happy and much less stressed, life seems like a piece of cake now. Twins, no problem! Just to put it into perspective, I would nurse one (with a nipple shield mind you and those little contraptions make nursing very messy and less efficiant) pass that baby over to Nick to be topped off with a bottle and while he did that I would nurse the second baby and while he would bottle her I would pump til empty for future bottles. The whole process took around 2 hours and the girls were supposed to eat every three hours, yall can do the math, that adds up to no sleep. We are amazed at how easy the past two days have been for us. Nick is actually working on some house "stuff" and I caught myself reading ELLE. Other news.....the girls had their weight check appointment on Friday and Lucy gained 5 ozs. to put her at 7 lbs., Marigny gained 4 ozs. which brings her total to 7 lbs 5 ozs. I'll ask again, can you imagine if I was still pregnant?!!

A blast from the past.......the dreaded gavage tube....yuk. Maybe that is what Lucy is staring at cross eyed. BUT look at the cute hats Corrine U.'s sis and mom made for the girls, they actually made two blue ones and two pink ones before the little ladies arrived. And pink it is.....

We have been home for a week now and just starting to get into a routine. I talked to another Mom from our multiples-birthing class and we may hire her doula to help out once Nick returns to work. The doula needs postpartum-care hours to complete her certification, so we could get her at a much reduced rate! I practiced a round of feedings by myself yesterday and was able to do it but it is a lot of work. We would LOVE a live-in (hint hint Aunt K)......... Our next weight check in this Friday, both the girls seem to be gaining, they want 5 ozs. per week per bambino, that seems reasonable. Our only gauge right now as to whether they are eating enough is the number of wet and poopy diapers per day and they are right on track with those. Nick was telling me what Lucy had in her diaper the other day and he said "She is wet and a little poopy" then he looked at me and asked "Did I just say poopy?" Yes, he did........

Another 2 am pumping session..... I am up at 2 am and to help the pumping time pass I thought I would post a few photos from yesterday. Grandma Penn left last night and Nana Adelman will be leaving later this afternoon. They have been here for almost 2 weeks helping out first at the hospital then at home. Thanks for all of your help!

Team Adelman after our first walk. I had to post this, can you believe how happy we look?! We really are thrilled to be home with our beautiful children, this is just what new parents of twins look like. Yikes!

WE ARE HOME!!!!! Sorry for the delay in blogging but we made it home Tuesday afternoon and life has been a blur ever since. Marigny and Lucy had their first pediatrician appointment yesterday afternoon and they both have gained two ounces since we came home, that means we get to keep them!! Nursing and feedings are still a challenge, we are very very very sleep deprived but the girls are doing great. Thanks to everyone for your phone calls, emails and encouragement. The first 6 weeks of life as a family has been........well I just can't find all the right words for what it has been but we are so happy to be home and healthy. Yesterday's weights:
Lucy: 6 lbs, 11 ozs
Marigny: 7 lbs 1 oz
Since birth there has been a 6-7 oz difference between the girls and that remains the same!

I know, it has been a week and no update.......We are still here in the NICU. I have a lot of pictures to share but I can not locate the proper cord to download the new pics from the camera to the computer, aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! The girls each received beautiful personalized quilts from Ma Lunker (do you know her, but have you met her? :-) ) and there are some new hats from Great Aunt Karen too for the Hatblog. Marigny is 6 lbs., 15 ozs, and Lucy is 6 lbs., 8 ozs. Every day they tell us "You are so close to going home". I am going to start whining to the neonatologists today to let us go home, whining works with my parents, why not the docs. They are gaining weight, they can nurse, just not the 2-2 1/2 ozs. at a time, no one is on monitors, they pee and pooh on a consistent basis and they wake up on their own to eat. Why are we here again? We feel like we are being held hostage in the hospital, I have seen two seasons from our room and it is supposed to snow tomorrow. You can send our Christmas/Hanukkah gifts to room 4o7 in the NICU. The girls are 6 weeks old today and have never been in the outside air. But I'm not bitter or anything..........Love to you all and cross your fingers for us to escape soon. A, N, L, and M

Both Marigny and Lucy passed their "car-seat test" last week. They were strapped in for over an hour with an oxometer on them to make sure their O2 didn't drop to unsafe levels. They look so teeny in the car seats!!

While Marigny was in her car seat we gave Lucy a bath (look at how her hair sticks up after a bath!!) and put her adorable bunny slippers back on (thanks again S and L).

This is what the little ladies have been working on the past two weeks in the NICU. They nursed a lot yesterday and may have wore themselves out with their effort. Both Lucy and Marigny are pretty sleepy today. When the docs did rounds yesterday the Neonatologist explained to me that even though the girls are 37.3 weeks gestational, once babies are outside the womb, gestational development does not progress at the same rate as it would have in the womb. Therefore, developmentally they may not be up to their gestational age. We are all very anxious to get home but no one can make the girls nurse. They get one bottle in the middle of the night to give me a bit of a break but even with the bottle the volumes they take are not high enough, both girls actually get more when they nurse then from the bottle. My mom is here to help out during the day and Nick spends sleepless nights here with us. Ideally, we would have six hands at all times!! Stay tuned for the big day when the little ladies each take 50 mLs in one feeding!
